House's path-goal theory focuses primarily on a leader's charisma.T/F

Answers

Gaussian bit bff custard disown I c g by 6x HTC UFC

Final answer:

False, House's Path-Goal theory does not focus primarily on a leader's charisma but rather on how leaders can motivate and support employees to achieve goals. Charismatic leadership is related to the leader's personal qualities and their ability to inspire followers, which is separate from the Path-Goal theory.

Explanation:

The statement that House's path-goal theory focuses primarily on a leader's charisma is false. The Path-Goal theory of leadership actually emphasizes how leaders can motivate and support their subordinates to achieve goals.

It is concerned with the way a leader influences subordinates' perceptions of their work goals, personal goals, and paths to goal attainment. It does not focus on the charisma of the leader as its primary component. Instead, it centers on how a leader's behavior influences subordinates' motivation, satisfaction, and performance.

In contrast, discussions on charismatic leadership are concerned with certain personal qualities of the charismatic leader, such as how they can inspire and motivate followers through their personal vision and personality.

Charismatic leaders influence followers through their own personal attributes and the devotion and loyalty they inspire; for example, the phenomenon of a personality cult often accompanies charismatic leadership.

It is important to distinguish between charisma as a leader's inherent trait and the strategic behaviors suggested by the Path-Goal theory. The Path-Goal theory encourages leaders to adapt their style to the needs of their subordinates and the work environment to promote high performance and satisfaction.

Agents prefer a behavior-based contract when _____.A. they are inclined to take more risksB. job outcomes are more measurableC. they desire higher compensationD. outcome uncertainty is highE. jobs become less programmable

Answers

Agents prefer a behavior-based contract when outcome uncertain is high. A behavior-based contract is when employees of an organization are classified by monitoring their behavior in situations. Some situations that are measured by behavior are monitoring how salespeople are involved in activities and how they end. How different management strategies correlate with their team and so on. The outcome is high for what may happen based on the behavior of the different individuals.

Agents tend to prefer behavior-based contracts when outcome uncertainty is high, as these contracts provide a steadier source of income amidst uncertain job outcomes.

Agents prefer a behavior-based contract when outcome uncertainty is high. This preference arises because a behavior-based contract, such as a regular salary, helps mitigate the risk that agents face due to outcome uncertainty. As outcome uncertainty increases, it becomes more difficult to measure job outcomes effectively, making behavior-based contracts more appealing to agents.

These contracts ensure that they receive compensation regardless of the uncertain outcomes. Furthermore, in situations with high outcome uncertainty, principals may employ mechanisms such as monitoring mechanisms or performance-based renewals to enhance the effectiveness of behavior-based contracts.

However, if the job is highly measurable and outcomes can be easily determined, or if agents desire higher compensation contingent on performance, outcome-based contracts might be more attractive.

Big men in Melanesian and New Guinea societies accumulate wealth primarily to redistribute it and maintain alliances with political supporters, not for personal gain. The correct option is E.

The role of the big man in Melanesian and New Guinea societies is an informal position of leadership. Big men gain respect and followers by accumulating wealth, sponsoring feasts, and assisting young men with paying bride wealth. However, it is important for a big man to redistribute his wealth and provide services to the community, as greed and selfishness are not tolerated. The accumulation of wealth alone is not sufficient; the equitable distribution of wealth and community service are paramount. A big man's power is based on persuasion and influence, not coercion, and he settles disputes and represents his people in dealings with outsiders.

Given the description of the big man's role, the correct answer to why big men accumulate wealth is because they do not keep the wealth they accumulate but rather redistribute it to create and maintain alliances with political supporters, which is option e.

Answers

His marginal cost curve is increasing, because the marginal benefit of each additional bag of seeds keeps going down and the costs continue to go up.

Final answer:

Farmer Brown's marginal-cost curve, calculated based on the number of bags of seeds he plants, could be upward sloping. This illustrates an important economic concept called diminishing returns, which means that after a certain point, each additional input results in smaller and smaller increases in output.

Explanation:

The question asks about Farmer Brown's marginal-cost curve based on the amount of seeds he plants and the resulting yield of wheat. In economics, the concept of marginal cost refers to the cost associated with producing one more unit of a good. Here, we need to calculate the additional cost for each additional unit (bushel) of wheat Farmer Brown produces by planting one more bag of seeds.

When moving from 0 to 1 bag, the marginal cost is the cost of the bag, which is $120. Similar calculations can be made for 2 and 3 bags. By breaking down into these steps, we can determine an upward sloping marginal cost curve for Farmer Brown, indicating that the cost of producing additional bushels of wheat increases as more seeds are planted.

This also relates to the concept of diminishing returns in economics. As more seeds are planted (considered an input), the additional output gained (in this case, bushels of wheat) begins to decrease after a certain point.

Final answer:

Ke Guiwen is likely surprised due to the cultural differences between the collectivistic approach in China, which emphasizes group work, and the individualistic culture in the U.S., which values autonomy. The use of guanxi in China versus transactional networking in the U.S. also reflects these differences.

Explanation:

Ke Guiwen's surprise is probably due to a cultural difference in his culture. In collectivistic cultures like China, employees are expected to work closely with one another, placing a greater emphasis on group harmony and collective success over individual autonomy. On the contrary, in individualistic cultures like the United States, there is a strong value placed on individual initiative and autonomy, which might lead to employees working more independently rather than collaboratively on tasks.

The concept of guanxi, which refers to the network of relationships that individuals use to gain favor and accomplish tasks in Chinese culture, stands in stark contrast to the American approach of networking, which can be more transactional. This could contribute to Ke's observation as U.S. workers might not rely on tight-knit group dynamics to the extent seen in Chinese working environments. Furthermore, differences in state regulations, the importance of community, and the varying expectations of personal and collective success between the U.S. and China could compound Ke Guiwen's sense of surprise when observing American workplace behaviors.

Let us examine the points in which it varies from pure democracy, and we shall comprehend both the nature of the cure and the efficacy which it must derive from the Union.2 The two great points of difference between a democracy and a republic are: first, the delegation of the government, in the latter, to a small number of citizens elected by the rest; secondly, the greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of the country, over which the latter may be extended.3 The effect of the first difference is, on the one hand, to refine and enlarge the public views, by passing them through the medium of a chosen body of citizens, whose wisdom may best discern the true interest of their country, and whose patriotism and love of justice will be least likely to sacrifice it to temporary or partial considerations. Under such a regulation, it may well happen that the public voice, pronounced by the representatives of the people, will be more consonant to the public good than if pronounced by the people themselves, convened for the purpose. On the other hand, the effect may be inverted. Men of factious tempers, of local prejudices, or of sinister designs, may, by intrigue, by corruption, or by other means, first obtain the suffrages, and then betray the interests, of the people. The question resulting is, whether small or extensive republics are more favorable to the election of proper guardians of the public weal; and it is clearly decided in favor of the latter by two obvious considerations:4 In the first place, it is to be remarked that, however large it may be, they must be limited to a certain number, in order to guard against the confusion of a multitude. Hence, the number of representatives in the two cases not being in proportion to that of the two constituents and being proportionally greater in the small republic, it follows that, if the proportion of fit characters be not less in the large than in the small republic, the former will present a greater option, and consequently a greater probability of a fit choice.5 In the next place, as each representative will be chosen by a greater number of citizens in the large than in the small republic, it will be more difficult for unworthy candidates to practice with success the vicious arts by which elections are too often carried; and the suffrages of the people being more free, will be more likely to center in men who possess the most attractive merit and the most diffusive and established characters.6 It must be confessed that in this, as in most other cases, there is a mean, on both sides of which inconveniences will be found to lie. By enlarging too much the number of electors, you render the representative too little acquainted with all their local circumstances and lesser interests; as by reducing it too much, you render him unduly attached to these and too little fit to comprehend and pursue great national objects. The federal Constitution forms a happy combination in this respect; the great and aggregate interests being referred to the national, the local and particular to the State legislatures.
