How does William become a "knight?" in a knight's tale
He takes to sit ector's place when he dies
Final answer:
In medieval literature and history, becoming a knight involved acts of valor, pledging fealty, and upholding the chivalrous code. A ceremony officiates the knighting, typically after a squire has shown worth through dedicated service and military prowess.
Explanation:
The concept of becoming a knight in tales often revolves around themes of chivalry, bravery, and service. In the context of medieval literature and history, a knight would typically earn their title through acts of valor, allegiance to a lord, and adhering to the chivalrous code. This is evident in the references presented, such as the depiction of a feudal pledge of fealty in the Bayeux Tapestry and the ideal qualities of a knight described in various literary excerpts. Literature often portrays knights as upholding high moral standards, being merciful and just in all men's eyes, and demonstrating unwavering dedication to their cause or lady, as seen in the poem about the knight and the Lady of Shalott.
Moreover, the process included an elaborate ceremony where a squire would be officially dubbed a knight, often by a liege lord or a knight of higher rank, after proving their worth through service and training. William's ascension to knighthood would likely include a combination of personal qualities, fealty to a sovereign, and evidence of his capabilities in military strategy and combat, as portrayed in the provided material about preparations for war and tactics of the cavalry.

your reading material gives you a hint about how you can use-------to improve choppy sentences? A. infinitives B. Objectives see. dangling participles D. Prepositional phrases or participial phrases
I believe the answer your looking for is D. Prepositional phrases or participle phrases/ Hope that helped!
Answer:
D). Prepositional phrases or participial phrases.
Explanation:
Choppy sentences are too short that may break the flow unnecessarily and sound and lessen the effectiveness of the writing. Prepositional phrases function as a modifier in the sentence, either as an adjective or as an adverb and indicate relationships between the different elements present in a sentence which would be quite helpful to avoid the choppiness of the sentences. These phrases consist of the preposition, its object, and the modifier of the object that would offer description, and length to the sentence and prevent the thoughts from being disconnected abruptly. For example, let's take a choppy sentence:
"She went upstairs."
The sentence after adding a prepositional phrase reads more meaningful and less choppy as displayed below:
"She went upstairs with him".

How does Thetis help Achilles? How long will it take her to complete her task?
Thetis and Achilles are two Iliad’s figures and the strong bond between mother and son represents one of the great poetic themes .
Thetis is more than a supporting character in Homer's epic poem infact her actions greatly influence the war and its consequences.
There is some evidence that the sea-goddess played a more central role in the religious beliefs and practices of Archaic Greece. When Achilles feels wronged or in trouble, he turns to his mother for help , which she provides. His child was a mortal like his father Peleus, so he is destined to have a short life even though his mother was an immortal sea goddess.
She played a key part the Trojan War events. Nine years after the beginning of the Trojan War, the Iliad starts with Agamemnon, the King of the Achaeans, and Achilles, arguing over Briseis, a war prize of Achilles.
Finally Achilles, disgraced by Agamemnon, refuses to fight to demonstrate how much the Greeks need him to win the war. Thetis convinces Achilles to wait until she speaks with Jove to rejoin the fighting and he waited. She begs Jove to let win the Trojans, even if they are enemies of his son.
Thetis is aware that the Trojans are destined to defeat, but asks Jove to postpone that moment, making them win some battles, so that the Greeks beg Achilles to return to fight and Agamemnon asks the hero's forgiveness.

What do the images of grass in this excerpt from Whitman's “Song of Myself” symbolize?
A child said What is the grass? fetching it to me with full hands;
How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more than he.
I guess it must be the flag of my disposition, out of hopeful green stuff woven.
Or I guess it is the handkerchief of the Lord,
A scented gift and remembrance designedly dropt,
Bearing the owner's name someway in the corners, that we may see
and remark, and say Whose?
Or I guess the grass is itself a child, the produced babe of the vegetation.
Or I guess it is a uniform hieroglyphic,
And it means, Sprouting alike in broad zones and narrow zones,
Growing among black folks as among white,
KanuckTuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff, I give them the same,
I receive them the same.”
Walt Whitman provides images of grass throughout his poem “Song of Myself.” According to the him, grass represents the hopeful nature of man. It also represents a gift from God: “A scented gift and remembrance designedly dropt,” which acts as a reminder of God’s existence. The poet further contemplates that the grass could also represent the “child” of nature: “Or I guess the grass is itself a child, the produced babe of the vegetation.”
As the poem progresses, Whitman uses grass as a symbol of equality. Grass represents how people of different races, genders, and classes are equal in America. Just as grass grows everywhere irrespective of the place, all humans are equal, no matter the group they belong to.

“True? Is this true, that I read here?”
“No, no—it is impossible that it can be true.”
“Miserable creature—what have you done?”
“Here you shall stay and give me an explanation.”
C. “Miserable creature—what have you done?”
The evidence from the passage that best supports the theme that one's true nature is revealed in times of distress is the third one:
"Miserable creature-what have you done?"
It is known that true feelings are revealed in difficult times because one acts without even thinking about it and just say the first thing it comes to mind. Without any boundaries, our words come out with no filter or reasoning period, so this is where we show our true nature.
In this case, in a clear moment of despair, the character calls the other "Miserable creature" and these words show feelings that have probably always been there and that come out in a moment of distress.

D) I did not even know that the British empire is dying still less did I know that it is a great deal better than the younger empires that are going to supplant it.
Although all four excerpts are disgusting, we should single out one of them.
"Shooting an Elephant" George Orwell is a story of imperialism and the ratio of the local population inhabited by Imperial Britain. Imperialism is the most powerful force in world history. It exists today, moved from the colonial era to neo-colonial or neo-imperialism. During this transition, modes and strategies were changed, but the goal remained the same - to rule and exploit the natives, using their strength, military, economic and technological.
Killing an elephant shows various aspects of imperialism, imperialism is a double sword that inflicts damage on both sides, the local population and the British officer representing the imperial empire. When he killed the animal, he had to calm the Burmese. The fact that the Burmese decides what the imperial officer must do about it, provides an ironic image of a master who becomes a slave to fulfill his racial and imperial duties. Here, Orwell asks an important question: if an officer, a good man, can be corrupted and destroyed by imperialism, what happens to those who are not so honest?
The officer is aware of the malevolence of imperialism, but he is also aware of the ways in which beasts turn locals under the influence of imperialism. Local Buddhist priests laugh at him because in essence it was not necessary to kill an elephant, which was the consequence of his clumsy decision. However, there is no greater embarrassment than laughter in the face, sent to the white officer of the British Empire.
An excerpt from "Shooting an Elephant" that best demonstrates the dual destructive influence of imperialism, both on the local and the imperialist ones, is C).

Now you’ll participate in a discussion where you collaborate with peers to build on your knowledge of how Anne has grown over the coarse of her diary
On The Diary of Anne Frank (1947), Anne changes not only physically but also mentally over the course of her story.
When she first arrives to the secret annex attached to the food factory she is hopeful and optimistic; however, that optimism slowly disappears and she starts to feel lonely.
Also, although at the beginning she lacks love for her mother and feels they have nothing in common, as time goes on, their relationship changes and Anne starts to understand and appreciate her mother. At the same time, she becomes more mature and wiser, which allows her to control herself and her fears.
Moreover, Anne falls in love for the first time with Peter, a 16 year old boy that also lives hidden. She changes her mind about him as well as she changes her mind about her mother, Mrs. Van Daan and her father, who treats Anne as a child according to her words.
While hiding in the secret annex, Anne also has the chance to reflect about her life, the kind of person she is and the kind of person she wants to be when she grows up. In other words, over the course of her diary, she goes from being a child to become a young woman.
1. Think about the themes that are developed and emerge through the characters and events in the novel. Is The Cay a story that is mostly about relationships or survival? Decide which theme the story is mostly about. Support your position using specific examples and evidence from the story
In his famous speech at the March on Washington in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I
have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be
judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
Theodore Taylor published The Cay six years later, in 1969. The dedication to the novel read:
“To Dr. King’s dream, which can only come true if the very young know and understand.”
What does Taylor want young people to “know and understand”? How will this help Dr.
King’s dream come true? Explain what the dedication means and how the message of the book
is connected to Dr. King’s dream. Use at least two details from the novel to support your
answer
This question asks about your work in your reading character role. You may use your reading
selection to help you answer the question.
What impact did the novel have on you as a reader? Would you recommend the novel to a
friend? Why or why not? Support your response with at least two pieces of evidence from the
novel.
1. The Cay is mostly about relationships, it teach us how leaving apart differences and prejudices can lead to mutual cooperation and friendship. This is shown when Philip becomes blind and stops discriminating Timothy for being black, realizing that what matters is not the skin color, but the heart, thoughts and ideas of a person.
2. Taylor wants young people to understand that, what makes different a person from another is not their skin color or their appearance, it is what's in their mind, their ideas and thoughts. If the young understand this, then people will stop considering being black as a difference, and will learn to see further and judge only by the content of the character of a person.
The examples are when Philip stops discriminating Timothy for being black, because due to his blindness this is not a remarkable characteristic anymore, and when he realizes how good is Timothy and how wrong he as for making unfair judgements.
3. This novel has opened my mind to a new way of thinking, which is giving people the opportunity to show themselves as they are before making any judgment by their appearance.
I would recommend this novel to any friend that shows a racist or even xenophobic behaviour, to teach them to be tolerant. For example, at the beginning Philip was racist but his mind completely changed when he realizes that we are all the same and the skin color doesn't represent a difference.
