A. demonstration of a song on the topic of climate change

B. a map indicating temperatures in different states across the country

C. segments of a radio broadcast on the topic

D. a question and answer session

Answers

The answer is B, because it is the only answer that is visual (meaning you see it). You have to SEE a map, you don't have to SEE any of the other answers to get the information.

Answer:

Option (B)

Explanation:

Visuals are those elements that are often added in a presentation in order to highlight or provide more information regarding a particular topic in a very accurate way.

A map is an example of visual that provides the information such as the temperature, pressure, elevation, amount of precipitation in a particular area.

Thus, a map showing the temperature s in different states across a country can be used as a visual in a presentation to explain the effect of climate change.

Hence, the correct answer is option (B).

THE MATCH

There never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.

Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature—by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.

In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.

1. The purpose of the line "In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match..." is to imply the main idea of the article. The statement that we can easily kindle fire today implies that there was a time when it wasn't so easy. That is why people had to figure out a way to kindle a fire without looking for a natural source. All of this supports the article's main idea, that match was a brilliant invention, which we shouldn't take for granted.

2. This line shows the need for matches. People had troubles with finding the fire, but it got even harder because any fire can easily get extinguished. This proves there was an urgent need to find a way to kindle fire without having to resort to nature at all times. The line doesn't show how dependable nature is - on the contrary, it shows that humans had to find a way to not depend on it. It doesn't show how people got the fire, or how long it took to make matches.

3. The correct answer is thesaurus. It is not an encyclopedia or an ordinary dictionary, but a dictionary of synonyms, that is words with similar meanings. It also contains antonyms (words with opposite meanings) and words with related meanings. When we don't know what a word means, we use a dictionary or an encyclopedia (or Wikipedia, for that matter). However, when we know its meaning, but are looking for a more appropriate word, we use a thesaurus.

details about why you were dissatisfied with the product or service
a proposed solution to the issue
threats notifying the recipient of action you will take if not satisfied

Answers

Hello!

It is not appropriate to include any threats in a letter of complaint. Although the person sending the letter of complaint is dissatisfied, it is not appropriate to notify the recipient of any threats. It is best to remain rational and reasonable when dealing with an unsatisfying product or service.

When writing a letter of complaint, it is necessary to add the purchase price, model, and serial number so that the recipient of your letter is aware of the product in which you are dissatisfied with. Providing feedback such as details on why you were dissatisfied with the product or service will help the recipient develop a solution to the problem. It may also be beneficial to propose your own solution, which can help the recipient develop solutions to future issues similar to your own.

Thus, Robinson Crusoe was a young man who rebelled against the quiet, methodical and routine life of the middle class of York, England, decides to run away from home and become a sailor, because that was what gave him satisfaction in life and not live on the stand of his father.

In one of his journeys a storm makes the ship where it was on board shipwreck. The only survivor of the tragedy, Crusoe manages to reach a deserted island, staying there for almost three decades. The tools, ropes, boards and other utensils he takes from the ship help him face helplessness and loneliness. While meddling in various perils and overcoming innumerable difficulties and deprivations, he ends up meditating on human and religious values. As a result, Robinson is in frequent conflict between the moral and religious reflections and his prudence that leads him to opt for behaviors that generate economic advantages

For singular words that end in s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z, what letters are added to make them plural?

Answers

You need to add es to the end
Box - Boxes
Church - Churches
Boss - Bosses
It just keeps going

Pluralize nouns ending in s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z, add -es. Examples include classes, boxes, dishes, churches, and buzzes. Some irregular plurals do not follow this rule and may require different changes.

For singular words that end in s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z, the typical rule for forming the plural is to add "es" to the end of the word.

For example:

Singular: bus -> Plural: busesSingular: glass -> Plural: glassesSingular: brush -> Plural: brushesSingular: box -> Plural: boxesSingular: buzz -> Plural: buzzesSingular: quiz -> Plural: quizzes

Other irregular plurals might not follow this rule and can sometimes remain the same in both singular and plural forms, like 'sheep' or 'deer'. For other examples, the vowel might change (mouse to mice) or a different ending might be used (child to children).

Consider this quote: "In each of these historical instances . . . mistrust led to misunderstanding, which led to armed conflict." The ellipsis in this quote is appropriate if

A. the meaning and spirit of the quote is retained.
B. it stands for the omission of only a single word.
C. the omission is longer than 10 words.
D. the omitted words express the bias of the person quoted.

Answers

Final answer:

An ellipsis in a quote is appropriate if A) it retains the quote's original meaning and spirit, regardless of the word count omitted. The integrity of the quotation should be preserved, and ellipses should not be used to exclude words that express the bias of the quoted individual.

Explanation:

The ellipsis in the quote "In each of these historical instances . . . mistrust led to misunderstanding, which led to armed conflict." is appropriate if the meaning and spirit of the quote is retained. An ellipsis is used to omit irrelevant sections of a quotation or to shorten it without altering the original meaning or spirit. It's important to indicate omitted words using ellipsis points, and if necessary, use brackets ([]) to clarify or add information.

When omitting words, the omitted section doesn't need to be constrained to a specific word count, such as only a single word or longer than 10 words. The important aspect is that the quotation's integrity is preserved. Also, the use of ellipsis should not be to exclude words that express the bias of the person quoted unless it's necessary to maintain the neutral tone and relevance of the writing.

The correct answer is A. the meaning and spirit of the quote is retained. The ellipsis in this quote is appropriate if: the meaning and spirit of the quote is retained.

Ellipses are used to indicate the omission of words from a direct quotation, and the purpose is to condense the quote while preserving its meaning and intent. In this case, option A aligns with this principle, indicating that the ellipsis should be used to retain the meaning and spirit of the quote.

You can omit as many words as you want, as long as 'the meaning and spirit of the quote is retained', that is, the general sense you wanted to convey with that quote is still there, even after you deleted those several words. In each of these historical instances . . . mistrust led to misunderstanding, which led to armed conflict. The ellipsis in this quote is appropriate if the meaning and spirit of the quote is retained.

Final answer:

The literary element in the quote is an allusion, which refers to a character's point of weakness symbolized by the story of Achilles' heel from Greek mythology.

Explanation:

The literary element present in the quote "The girl's love of diamonds was her Achilles heel" by the French writer Jean Paulhan is an allusion. An allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a person, place, thing, or idea of historical, cultural, literary, or political significance. In this quote, Paulhan is referencing the legend of Achilles, whose only vulnerable spot was his heel, as told in Greek mythology and stories like Homer's Iliad. In literature, it presents a personal trait or characteristic that can lead to one's downfall, and its usages offer deep characterization without lengthy explanation.
