What caused the County Unit System to come to an end?
A. the Governor ended it
B. the President ended it
C. challenges in the legal system
D. boycotts by Civil Rights groups

Answers

B.the president ended it.

The County Unit System ended due to legal challenges that deemed it unfair and in violation of the 'one person, one vote' principle. State efforts to resist changes mandated by federal law were consistently deemed futile in court. Option C is correct .

The County Unit System was put to an end due to challenges in the legal system [ Option C ] . This system, which was used to count votes in certain U.S. states, was challenged on the grounds that it violated the principle of "one person, one vote."

Despite the Southern tradition of using state and local legislation or courts to resist changes mandated by the federal government, the legal efforts to preserve systems like the County Unit System ultimately failed. Similar to how southern states' efforts to defy desegregation orders were unsuccessful, legal challenges to voting systems that lacked fairness were also destined to crumble under judicial review.

An important example being when, in the face of federal pressure, Governor George Wallace of Alabama had to yield to federal marshals outside the University of Alabama in 1963, showing the futility of defying federal law. Similarly, systemic electoral mechanisms designed to disenfranchise certain voters were systematically taken apart by court decisions.

How does executive order differ from the law

Answers

The major difference between the two comes in how they are made. A law must go through the entire legislative process. It must be approved by both houses of Congress and signed by the President. By contrast, an executive order does not have to do any of these things.

Executive Orders provide required requirements for something like the Executive Authority as well as seem to have a legal force.

They typically proclaimed throughout the response to legislation approved by Parliament or perhaps throughout the accordance given authority provided to such President either by Constitutional and that they should be compatible with those kinds of provisions.Such orders are generally numbered throughout the ascending order, thus a greater proportion indicates that the order was issued relatively recently.

President John Adams' tenure was marked by the Alien and Sedition Acts, which restricted civil liberties and led to a states' rights response where states sought to nullify these laws.

The presidency of John Adams was a particularly tumultuous period in American history, characterized by the controversial Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798.These laws were passed to empower the president to deport foreign nationals considered dangerous and to punish speech critical of the government, effectively curbing civil liberties. This led to significant backlash from the states, which invoked the principle of states' rights and sought to nullify these federal laws, most notably through the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions. These resolutions argued that states had the authority to judge the constitutionality of federal actions and refused to enforce laws they deemed unconstitutional, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for power between the federal government and the states.

what types of hardships and dangers faced by american soldiers does sherwood's diary entry describe? what other hardships does the entry hint at?

Answers

Final answer:

The hardships faced by American soldiers included psychological trauma, forced conscription, and loss of property, which were detailed in Sherwood's diary entry. The entry expresses experiences of brutality and devastation during warfare that affected both soldiers and civilians, leading to both visible and invisible scars.

Explanation:

The hardships and dangers faced by American soldiers, as detailed in the diary entry by Sherwood, include the psychological trauma of seeing comrades and fellow civilians suffer, the potential for being forced into action at the point of a bayonet, and the devastating impact on their personal lives and property. Soldiers experienced not only the brutalities of the physical conflict but also the resulting emotional and economic toll. The entry hints at additional hardships such as witnessing forced conscription, potential illness or injury feigned to avoid service, and the relentless destruction of personal belongings and homesteads without necessity, which contributed to a sense of violation and injustice that fueled their resistance.

These experiences are indicative of the chaos and often senseless devastation brought by warfare, which not only impacts those on the front lines but also the civilians who are caught in the crossfire. Such accounts highlight the multifaceted suffering caused by war, affecting individuals at various levels and leaving deep, sometimes invisible scars alongside the more visible wounds.

What did Washington's actions at the Battle of Trenton show about his character and leadership?

Answers

Final answer:

Washington's daring maneuver at the Battle of Trenton displayed his innovative leadership and courage, resulting in a strategic victory that revitalized American revolutionary morale and showcased his ability to inspire and lead effectively.

Explanation:

Washington's actions at the Battle of Trenton reveal much about his character and leadership. He showed initiative and a willingness to break with conventional military tactics by attacking during winter when the enemy did not expect an assault. Washington's leadership was marked by his bold decision to cross the icy Delaware River and his effective strategy of deploying troops to cut off the Hessian retreat. His actions demonstrated an ability to inspire his men and to seize the opportunity when it presented itself, capturing much-needed supplies, weapons, and ammunition, and even more critically, restoring morale among the American colonists at a time when the Revolutionary War was going badly for them.

The victory at Trenton was not just a military achievement but also a symbolic one, portraying Washington as a leader capable of turning the tides of war. Trumbull's painting General George Washington at Trenton and Peale's rendition depict him as larger than life, someone who captured the imagination of the public and embodied the character necessary for the struggling nation.

How did they recycle in the ancient city of Pompeii

Answers

As far as the people of ancient Pompeii were concerned, dead bodies and trash were basically the same thing, at least in terms of where they ended up. And that isn't even the grossest place Pompeii put its trash.

When archaeologists first started excavated the legendary Roman city back in the 19th century, they were shocked to discover waste all around the tombs. The refuse included animal bones both charred and butchered, dog and horse remains, as well as broken pottery and building material. Some of these came from areas that had been preserved exactly as they were when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 CE, burying the city.

The 19th century archaeologists assumed that this was a sign of a city in decay. Perhaps the earthquake that had hit the city in 62 CE had sent the city into a major decline, and so the garbage (not to mention all the graffiti) had simply started to pile up in the tombs while the city's inhabitants just tried to keep their city going. This theory, which endured for generations, was likely a result of the simple fact that it was completely unthinkable to these 19th century scientists that a city as civilized as Pompeii would see cemeteries as appropriate places to leave trash.

But that seems to have been pretty much exactly the case, according to University of Cincinnati archaeologist Allison Emmerson. In the last fifteen years, new research has made it clear that Pompeii was still a major, thriving city in the Roman Empire after the earthquake right up until Vesuvius buried it in ash. As such, there's no reason to think the city had abandoned maintenance of its tombs. The cemeteries look just how they're supposed to look, and that includes the trash.

Part of this is a function of where the people of Pompeii placed their tombs. While we tend to place cemeteries in secluded, fenced off areas, the people of Pompeii would give their dead prominent placement in tombs along along the city's busy streets. That probably means a much more casual acceptance of the presence of dead bodies than we're now used to, and they seemed to take a similar approach to trash.

There's no evidence that Pompeii had any central trash disposal area, and excavations have shown garbage piled up all along the interior of the city walls, in streets and alleys outside homes, and even on the floors of their own homes. Tombs weren't a designated trash disposal area - they were just yet another of the many options the people of Pompeii had to get rid of excess garbage. As Emmerson explains, the tombs weren't even the most shocking (from our modern perspective) place that Pompeii left its trash:

"For instance, I excavated a room in a house where the cistern (for storing drinking water and water for washing) was placed between two waste pits. Both waste pits were found completely packed with trash in the form of broken household pottery, animal bones and other food waste, like grape seeds and olive pits."

Emmerson says this is only coming to light now in part because early excavators simply couldn't countenance the idea of such apparent disrespect towards the death. She also says previous archaeologists weren't as interested in the possible cultural value of trash - to them, garbage was simply garbage, even if it was nearly two thousand years old.

But as we're seeing here, trash helps reveal how people in Pompeii saw life and death. Both were seen as messy, vibrant, and almost certainly smelly affairs, as Emmerson explains:

"In general, when a Roman was confronted with death, he or she was more concerned with memory than with the afterlife. Individuals wanted to be remembered, and the way to do that was a big tomb in a high-traffic area. In other words, these tombs and cemeteries were never meant to be places for quiet contemplation. Tombs were display — very much a part of every day life, definitely not set apart, clean or quiet. They were part of the 'down and dirty' in life.

how do you write tomorrow my last day of school is almost here in dashes for extra information

Answers

Final answer:

The sentence 'Tomorrow my last day of school is almost here' with added dashes is correctly written as 'Tomorrow—my last day of school—is almost here.' Use the dash to emphasize or provide extra information but don't overuse it.

Explanation:

When writing the sentence 'Tomorrow my last day of school is almost here' using dashes for extra information, you should be mindful of the rules for using dashes. Dashes can emphasize content within or after them and can also be used to set apart appositive phrases that contain commas. Following the correct usage, the sentence with dashes could be written: 'Tomorrow—my last day of school—is almost here.'

Remember that the dash is longer than the hyphen, and in most word processing programs, it is created by typing two hyphens in a row which then automatically converts into a dash. The dash should be used judiciously to ensure it maintains its function of emphasizing or providing additional information without overuse.

it did not, in fact it made it harder. in ancient times, moving an army sizable enough to defeat Egypt would have been extremely difficult. Just the logistics would be a nightmare, having to feed 70,000 men plus horses.

How did the geography of the Greek peninsula help them defeat the Persians?
Athenian soldiers were able to hide in the valleys.
The Athenians developed a more powerful navy than the Persians.
The Persians were unable to transport supplies into the Greek city-states.
The Persians were unable to cross the mountains.

Answers

Final answer:

The geography of the Greek peninsula helped the Greeks defeat the Persians in several ways. The Athenians had a superior navy, the Persians struggled to transport supplies, and the mountains acted as a natural barrier so the Persians couldn't easily invade.

Explanation:

The geography of the Greek peninsula provided several advantages that helped them defeat the Persians:

The Athenians developed a more powerful navy than the Persians. The Greek city-states, especially Athens, relied on their naval strength to defend themselves against the Persians. At the Battle of Salamis, the Greek navy defeated the Persian fleet, a major turning point in the war.

The Persians were unable to transport supplies into the Greek city-states. The rugged and mountainous terrain of the Greek peninsula made it difficult for the Persians to transport supplies to their army. This weakened their ability to sustain their forces and made them vulnerable to Greek attacks.

The Persians were unable to cross the mountains. The mountains in Greece, such as the ones at Thermopylae, acted as natural barriers that prevented the Persians from easily invading the Greek city-states. This allowed the Greek forces, particularly the Spartans, to hold off the Persians and buy time for the rest of the Greek army.

In 1710, prior to the outbreak of the Tuscarora War, the Tuscarora people made a plea to the governor of Pennsylvania. Desperate for peace, the Tuscarora begged for sanctuary in Pennsylvania. The speakers for the tribe talked of women and children unable to gather food and play in the forest for fear of being captured. They talked of not being able to hunt freely to support their families. They talked, above all, of a desire for peace between the settlers and themselves, even if it required leaving their homelands.
