True or false? Many triangular shapes can be circumscribed about a given circle

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

False.

Because Only one circle can be circumscribed about a given triangle.

Answer 2

Final answer:

The statement that many triangular shapes can be circumscribed about a given circle is true, as an infinite number of triangles can be formed by connecting any three distinct points on the circumference of the circle.

Explanation:

The statement "Many triangular shapes can be circumscribed about a given circle" is true. By definition, a circumscribed triangle is one that surrounds a circle, touching the circle exactly at its perimeter at three points.

Given a circle, you can indeed construct infinite triangles that circumscribe the circle, as for any set of three points on the circumference of the circle, a unique triangle can be formed.

In mathematical terms, three points determine one of these curves; that is, through any three points not in a straight line on a circle's circumference, we can draw a unique triangle which will circumscribe the circle.

Since there are an infinite number of points on a circle's circumference, we can choose an infinite number of triplets of points, each producing a different circumscribed triangle.

Jill picks a number at random and multiplies it by 2 and adds five to the product. She then multiplies the sum by -3 and subtracts 7 from the product. After these four steps her new number is -40. What was her original number?

Answers

Answer:

3

Step-by-step explanation:

Say Jill picks the number x.

She multiplies it by 2 giving 2x.

It says add 5 to that product giving 2x+5.

She multiplies this sum by -3 giving -3(2x+5).

She then subtracts 7 from that product giving -3(2x+5)-7.

Her number after doing all of this is -40 so we hae -3(2x+5)-7=-40

To solve:

First: I would add 7 on both sides:  -3(2x+5)=-33

Second: I would divide boht sides by -3:  2x+5=11

Third: I would subtract 5 on both sides: 2x=6

Last: I would divide both sides by 2:  x=3

ABC is dilated by a scale factor of 3 with the origin as the center of dilation, resulting in the image A'B'C'. If the slope of line AB is -1.2, what is the slope of line A'B'?
A. -1.2
B. 3.6
C. 1.2
D 1.8

Answers

Answer:

The slope of A'B' = -1.2 ⇒ answer A

Step-by-step explanation:

* Lets talk about dilation

- A dilation is a transformation that changes the size of a figure.

- It can become larger or smaller, but the shape of the

 figure does not change.

- The scale factor, measures how much larger or smaller

  the image will be

- If the scale factor greater than 1, then the image will be larger

- If the scale factor between 0 and 1, then the image will be smaller

- If the center of the dilation is the origin then multiply each coordinate

 by the scale factor

* In the problem

∵ Δ ABC is dilated by a scale factor of 3 with the origin as the center

  of dilation

- Let point A is (a , b) and point B is (c , d)

∵ The slope of the line which passes through points (x1 , y1) and (x2 , y2)

  is m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

∴ The slope of AB = (d - b)/(c - a) = -1.2

∵ Point A' is (3a , 3b) and point B' is (3c , 3d)

∴ The slope of A'B' = (3d - 3b)/(3c - 3a)

- Take 3 as a common factor from up and down

∴ The slope of A'B' = 3(d - b)/3(c - a) ⇒ cancel 3 up with 3 down

∴ The slope of A'B' = (d - b)/(c - a) = the slope of AB

∵ The slope of AB = -1.2

∴ The slope of A'B' = -1.2

* The slope of A'B' = -1.2

In a class of 32 students, the mean height of the 14 boys is 1.56 metres. The mean height of all 32 students is 1.515 metres.

Work out the mean height of the girls.

Answers

Answer:

1.48 m

Step-by-step explanation:

mean height of 14 boys is 1.56 m, so their total height is 14 * 1.56 = 21.84 m

mean height of 32 students is 1.515 m, so their total height is 48.48

48.48 - 21.84 = 26.64 (total height of the girls)

mean height of the girls is 26.64/18 = 1.48 m

Answer:

1.48 m.

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 32 - 14 = 18 girls in the class.

Total height of the whole class = 1.515 * 32

= 48.48 m..

Total height of all the boys = 14 * 1.56 =  21.84 m.

So the total height of the 18 girls = 48.48 - 21.84

= 26.64 m.

Therefore the mean height of the girls

= 26.64 / 18

= 1.48 m.

Which of the following is NOT a possible value of the correlation coefficient?
A. negative 0.9
B. zero
C. positive 0.15
D. positive 1.5
E. negative .05

Answers

Answer:

positive 1.5

Step-by-step explanation:

by definition, the possible values for correlation coefficients are

-1 ≤ correlation coefficient ≤ 1

+1.5 lies outside this range and hence is not valid.

Final answer:

The correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two variables, ranging from -1 to +1. Therefore, a value of positive 1.5, as listed in option D, is not a possible value for a correlation coefficient.

Explanation:

In mathematics, particularly in statistics, a correlation coefficient is a measure of the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two variables on a scatterplot. The value of a correlation coefficient ranges from -1 to +1. A correlation coefficient of +1 indicates a perfect positive linear relationship, a correlation coefficient of -1 indicates a perfect negative linear relationship, and a correlation coefficient of 0 indicates no linear relationship.

Therefore, the answer to the question is: D. positive 1.5. This is not a possible value for a correlation coefficient because it lies outside the acceptable range of -1 to +1.

Mathieu is finding the x-intercepts of the function f(x) = x2 + 4x + 3. His work is shown below
. Which error did Mathieu make?

Answers

Answer:

I can't see Mathieu's work but I will show the right steps and maybe you can find where Mathieu went wrong.

f(x)=x^2+4x+3

f(x)=(x+3)(x+1)       Since 3*1=3 and 3+1=4

The x-intercepts can be found by setting y to 0 and solving for x

(in other words replace that f(x) thing with 0 and solve for x)

0=(x+3)(x+1)

Now set both factors equal to 0

x+3=0       or      x+1=0

x   =-3                    x=-1

The x-intercepts are at (-3,0) and (-1,0)

A function assigns the value of each element of one set to the other specific element of another set. The correct option is C.

What is a Function?

A function assigns the value of each element of one set to the other specific element of another set.

The x-intercepts of the function f(x) = x² + 4x + 3 can be found as shown below.

f(x) = x² + 4x + 3

0 = x² + 4x + 3

0 = (x+3)(x+1)

x = -3, -1

Now, it can be seen that Mathieu has actually set the factored expressions equal to each other, which was wrong.

49 ___ 3 + 32 ÷ 23

49 ___ 3 + 1.39

49 ___ 4.39

49 > 4.39 is the only possible answer. 49 is greater than 4.39.

Final answer:

To determine the correct symbol for the expression 49 ___ 3 + 32 ÷ 23, first calculate the right side following PEMDAS, resulting in 7. Then compare it with the left side (49), which shows that 49 is greater than 7, so the correct symbol is '>'.

Explanation:

The question asks which symbol makes the mathematical statement true for the expression 49 ___ 3 + 32 ÷ 23. We need to solve the right side of the equation first before we can determine the correct symbol to use.

To solve 3 + 32 ÷ 23, we need to follow the order of operations, also known as PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division as they appear from left to right, Addition and Subtraction as they appear from left to right). First, we solve the exponent 23, which equals 8. Then, we perform the division: 32 ÷ 8 = 4. Finally, we add 3 to the result: 3 + 4 = 7. So, our expression on the right side of the equation is equal to 7.

Now we compare the left side of the equation (49) with the result we calculated (7). It is evident that 49 is greater than 7, so the correct symbol to use would be '>'. Therefore, the complete and true mathematical statement would be: 49 > 3 + 32 ÷ 23 or 49 > 7.

"I'll tell you what, husband," answered the woman, "early tomorrow morning we will take the children out into the forest to where it is the thickest; there we will light a fire for them, and give each of them one more piece of bread, and then we will go to our work and leave them alone. They will not find the way home again, and we shall be rid of them." "No, wife," said the man, "I will not do that; how can I bear to leave my children alone in the forest?the wild animals would soon come and tear them to pieces." "O, you fool!" said she, "then we must all four die of hunger, you may as well plane the planks for our coffins," and she left him no peace until he consented. "But I feel very sorry for the poor children, all the same," said the man. The two children had also not been able to sleep for hunger, and had heard what their stepmother had said to their father. Gretel wept bitter tears, and said to Hansel: "Now all is over with us." "Be quiet, Gretel," said Hansel, "do not distress yourself, I will soon find a way to help us." And when the old folks had fallen asleep, he got up, put on his little coat, opened the door below, and crept outside. The moon shone brightly, and the white pebbles which lay in front of the house glittered like real silver pennies. Hansel stooped and stuffed the little pocket of his coat with as many as he could get in. Then he went back and said to Gretel: "Be comforted, dear little sister, and sleep in peace, God will not forsake us," and he lay down again in his bed. When day dawned, but before the sun had risen, the woman came and awoke the two children, saying: "Get up, you sluggards! we are going into the forest to fetch wood." She gave each a little piece of bread, and said: "There is something for your dinner, but do not eat it up before then, for you will get nothing else." Gretel took the bread under her apron, as Hansel had the pebbles in his pocket. Then they all set out together on the way to the forest. When they had walked a short time, Hansel stood still and peeped back at the house, and did so again and again. His father said: "Hansel, what are you looking at there and staying behind for? Pay attention, and do not forget how to use your legs." "Ah, father," said Hansel, "I am looking at my little white cat, which is sitting up on the roof, and wants to say goodbye to me." The wife said: "Fool, that is not your little cat, that is the morning sun which is shining on the chimneys." Hansel, however, had not been looking back at the cat, but had been constantly throwing one of the white pebble-stones out of his pocket on the road. When they had reached the middle of the forest, the father said: "Now, children, pile up some wood, and I will light a fire that you may not be cold." Hansel and Gretel gathered brushwood together, as high as a little hill. The brushwood was lighted, and when the flames were burning very high, the woman said: "Now, children, lay yourselves down by the fire and rest, we will go into the forest and cut some wood. When we have done, we will come back and fetch you away." Hansel and Gretel sat by the fire, and when noon came, each ate a little piece of bread, and as they heard the strokes of the wood-axe they believed that their father was near. It was not the axe, however, but a branch which he had fastened to a withered tree which the wind was blowing backwards and forwards. And as they had been sitting such a long time, their eyes closed with fatigue, and they fell fast asleep. When at last they awoke, it was already dark night. Gretel began to cry and said: "How are we to get out of the forest now?" But Hansel comforted her and said: "Just wait a little, until the moon has risen, and then we will soon find the way." And when the full moon had risen, Hansel took his little sister by the hand, and followed the pebbles which shone like newly-coined silver pieces, and showed them the way.
