the oak tree at school was 34 feet tall then it grew 18 feet taller how tall is the oak tree now

Answers

Answer 1
34 + 18
the tree grew 18 ft taller meaning (+18)
add the two numbers to get

52 feet.
Answer 2
Let's use the facts the problem gives us to solve this:

The oak tree began at 34 feet, then grew 18 feet. We must add 18 to the original 34 feet the oak tree began at to find the current height of the tree.

34 + 18 = 52

Now, the oak tree is 52 feet tall. I hope this helps! :)

Larry sold twice as many magazines as Jan. Henry sold 8 more magazines than Jan. Larry and Henry sold the same amount of magazines. How many magazines did Jan sell?

Answers

16 magazines i think

Jan sold 8 magazines.

The question is a classic example of a system of linear equations in the context of solving word problems. To solve for the number of magazines Jan sold, we need to set up equations based on the information provided.

Let's denote the number of magazines Jan sold as J. According to the problem, Larry sold twice as many magazines as Jan did, which can be represented as 2J. Henry sold 8 more magazines than Jan, which can be represented as J + 8. Lastly, we are told that Larry and Henry sold the same number of magazines, meaning 2J is equal to J + 8.

To find the number of magazines Jan sold (J), we solve the equation:

2J = J + 8

2J - J = 8 (Subtract J from both sides)

J = 8

Thus, Jan sold 8 magazines.

Answers

the tip would be = 2.325 which rounds up to 2.33$ in total this would be17.83
For problems regarding any percentages like this for a total sum, you want to multiple the percentage as a decimal (in this case, 15% becomes .15) by the total number ($15.50). The number you get (2.325 or $2.33) is then added or subtracted by the total number. If it is a tip, you then add the number to find out the total amount. $15.50 + $2.33 = $17.83. If it were to ask for a discount, then you would subtract it.
15.50 * .15
15.50 + 2.325 (round to 2.33)

What is the approximate difference in the amount of wax needed to make a candle from each of these molds? (Use π = 3.14.)
a) 4.19 cubic inches
b) 10.4 cubic inches
c) 12.56 cubic inches
d) 20.93 cubic inches

Answers

Final answer:

To find the approximate difference in the amount of wax needed to make a candle from each of these molds, we can calculate the volume of wax using the formula for the volume of a cylinder. The approximate differences in volume can be calculated by subtracting the volume of mold a) from the volumes of molds b), c), and d).

Explanation:

To find the approximate difference in the amount of wax needed to make a candle from each of these molds, we need to calculate the volume of wax required for each mold. The formula for the volume of a cylinder is V = πr²h, where r is the radius and h is the height.

Using the given values, we can calculate the volumes as follows:

Volume for mold a) = 3.14 × (sqrt(4.19/3.14))² × 1 = 7.98 cubic inches

Volume for mold b) = 3.14 × (sqrt(10.4/3.14))² × 1 = 35.58 cubic inches

Volume for mold c) = 3.14 × (sqrt(12.56/3.14))² × 1 = 50.24 cubic inches

Volume for mold d) = 3.14 × (sqrt(20.93/3.14))² × 1 = 111.51 cubic inches

The approximate differences in the amount of wax needed to make a candle from each of these molds are:

Approximate difference between mold a) and b) = 35.58 - 7.98 = 27.6 cubic inches

Approximate difference between mold a) and c) = 50.24 - 7.98 = 42.26 cubic inches

Approximate difference between mold a) and d) = 111.51 - 7.98 = 103.53 cubic inches

How can properties help me add whole numbers and decimals.

Answers

by finding out ways to separate things
Final answer:

Mathematical properties like the Commutative Property and place value concepts can assist in simplified addition of decimals and whole numbers. Multiplying decimals by powers of ten can further ease such additions.

Explanation:

In the field of mathematics, properties can significantly aid in the process of adding whole numbers and decimals. One such property is the Commutative Property which states that the order in which numbers are added does not change the sum. For example, if you are adding 2.3 (decimal) + 4 (whole number), you would get the same result as 4 + 2.3.

Furthermore, you can leverage the concept of place value. This involves aligning the decimal points and adding digits from right to left to get the correct sum.

Lastly, multiplying by powers of ten can aid in the addition of whole numbers and decimals. When we multiply a decimal by a power of 10, we simply move the decimal point to the right by the same number of places as there are zeros in the power of 10. This can make additions easier. For instance, if we want to add 4 + 0.23, we could multiply 0.23 by 100 (a power of 10) to get 23, and then it's much straightforward to add 4 + 23. But we have to remember to divide by 100 at last to get the real answer: 4.23.

How can you decide whether to be a brain surgeon or a novelist

Answers

Hey there! Hello!

Wow, loaded question... I'm assuming that this falls under a more personal category for you, but if not, I'd really like to know what class your taking that's asking you a question of this caliber.

I'm afraid that I cannot answer your question, directly anyway. I'm not you, and I don't know you personally; even if I did, I still wouldn't be able to tell you what to do with your life.

Things like these are tough. I've wanted to be an artist my whole life, but just recently, I've been considering other options due to the lack of money involved generally with being an artist, and doing something related to space. But, things like this aren't exactly the easiest to go back on. A college I would go to for a doctorate in space science would be the polar opposite to one I would go to for a major in motion design and a minor in illustration. The transition from one to the other would be quite hellish, and I'll probably feel regret with either one I go for when I find myself thinking of what I could have been instead of what I am.

But it's loaded questions like these that make us humans have to consider how we see ourselves in the future. I can see myself as either a space scientist or a motion/graphic designer. I wish I could be both, but I can't imagine I could pay for more than 10 years of college just so I can do it all.

The only thing I can really recommend is to sit on it for as long as you can. It's not procrastinating, only putting deep consideration into your options. I'm not sure how long you have until you need to make the college/career decision, but as someone with only two years until I have to go to college, I know how stressful it can be. Two years seem to be flying by like 2 minutes when thinking about my future.

Also, which class do you like better? Do you like science related to anatomy, like Biology, more, or do you like English, and enjoy when you get to write essays and short stories for your assignments more?

Another thing I can suggest is writing down the benefits to either profession as well as the drawbacks. Make sure your drawbacks do not include not being able to do the other profession, or you'll send yourself into some subconscious, paradox–induced panic attack, and we don't want that to happen. Think about what you'll be able to do in the world with either profession. Which of these accomplishments is more important to you? Be sure to also consider how much you'll be able to make in each profession, since your future self will thank you a lot for it later. Just do as much research about either profession as you can.

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a profession, but make sure, in your final decision, that you choose something that you know you'll love and will never regret doing. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to talk with a trusted parent or loved one about this decision, as well.

I hope this helped you out! I know how it feels to be in such turmoil over things like this, where the outcome can be so unpredictable. But thank you for reading this all the way through if you got to the end, and feel free to ask me any additional questions if you have any. :-)

Choosing between a career as a brain surgeon and a novelist involves weighing the time commitment for education and training against immediate earning potential. Additionally, personal passion, societal impact, and job significance in relation to one's lifestyle should be considered. The value of a career isn't solely determined by financial gain or status.

Deciding between becoming a brain surgeon or a novelist involves considerations beyond immediate income. The hypothetical scenario emphasizes that both professions, in this case, pay $150,000 annually, with a key difference in time invested in education and training. A brain surgeon requires extensive education and does not begin earning until about age 35, whereas a shoe shiner, used metaphorically for immediate income jobs like novel writing, earns from age 16. This leads to an opportunity cost of $2.85 million over 19 years.

However, career decisions are not solely based on financial aspects. They require considering personal interests, skills, and societal needs. A brain surgeon's job is highly specialized, and few people possess the necessary skills, which warrants a high income as an incentive. Conversely, a novelist's path may allow more immediate creative expression and potentially earlier financial independence.

It's essential to consider long-term consequences and uncertainties in career choice. Your passion, societal impact, and desired lifestyle must all shape your decision. Moreover, the intrinsic value of different professions cannot be solely quantified by income or prestige. Jobs like brain surgery or coal mining are both critical, and their importance is context-dependent.

a ladder 6 meters in length leans against a wall. the base of the ladder is 2 meters away from the base of the wall. how far up the wall does the ladder reach to the nearest tenth?

Answers

Dear Solana1, we will use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve this problem. First, we identify the length of the ladder as the hypotenuse and the distance the ladder is from the base of the wall as one of the legs. The unknown variable, "how far up the wall" is the other value for the leg. Hence, a^2 + b^2 = c^2.. This gives us 2 squared + x squared = 6 squared. We do the math and we get 4 + x squared = 36. We solve for x, we get the square root of 32, which is approximately 5.7. Best.

Scientists believe there is a link between ambient temperature and damage to a head gasket on a car. They perform a study recording daily temperature and the damage index to a head gasket on a car.

What is the domain?

Answers

The domain would be the daily temperature since that is the independent variable in the problem. I hope this helped and make sure to make this the brainliest answer :)

Answer:

The domain is the temperature

Step-by-step explanation:

The domain of a function can be seen as the set of all possible independent values or variables which will make the function "work", and will output real values for the independent variable.

In the question above, what's been recorded daily is the temperature.

Hence, it serves as the independent variable as its variation does not depend on that of another.

So, temperature is the domain for the function above
