How did the landscape of the African continent determine settlement patterns? What were the effects of these patterns?

Answers

Answer 1
Final answer:

The landscape of Africa influenced settlement patterns diverse vegetation and climate conditions determined the lifestyles, whether nomadic or settled. These patterns led to cultural and economic practices like the Bantu migrations, which integrated new techniques from interactions with different groups. Such settlements and cultural interactions shaped the distinctive cultural landscapes of the African continent.

Explanation:

The African continent's landscape influenced settlement patterns based on factors such as climate, availability of natural resources, and geography. Well-watered regions like savannas fostered settled human communities due to abundant rain, adequate forestation, and wildlife. In contrast, more arid regions with less rain and less fertile soil were more conducive to nomadic lifestyles and herding of grazing animals.

Over time, these settlement patterns led to distinct societal structures and ways of life. The Bantu migrations, for example, had a significant impact on Africa’s cultural and economic practices. As they diffused throughout sub-Saharan Africa, they interacted with a variety of groups, acquiring new techniques in plant and animal husbandry and metalworking, which they integrated into their own societies.

Furthermore, like the rise and diffusion of Islam in West Africa, these settlement patterns and related exchanges determined the cultural landscapes within specific regions of Africa. From the tenth century onwards, Bantu societies exploited the river systems of southern Africa, cultivating extensive farmland and fostering large civilization developments. The knowledge of ironworking, farming, and livestock herding they had acquired over generations of migrations throughout sub-Saharan Africa accelerated this process.

Which statement is best supported by the fact that Lemuel Haynes fought in the Connecticut militia during the American Revolution?
The British military refused to let African Americans enlist in its ranks.
Haynes and other slaves were forced to fight for the American revolutionaries.
Haynes believed that an independent America could help all people be free.
Patriot political leaders had promised to free slaves if the colonies won the war.

Answers

I believe the statement regarding Haynes and the other slaves were forced to fight best supports the original statement. The other two sentences might be true, however they are very subjective and apply many assumptions into the conclusions as they are written.

African Americans fought on both sides of the American Revolution. At the beginning of the war, Britain appealed to slaves to join the British war efforts. Many slaves were promised their freedom for fighting for the British.

African Americans fought for the American side as well. As many as five thousand African American freedmen and slaves joined the Continental Army. Some fought because they believed in the cause, while others fought for money. Some escaped from slavery and joined the fighting, while others fought in exchange for their freedom. Some African Americans used their experience as slaves to write about freedom during this time period. Phyllis Wheatley, an African American slave in Boston, was a strong supporter of the revolution. She wrote poems about slavery and freedom, which won her international fame. She even wrote a poem praising George Washington. African Americans also contributed to the war by producing food for the Continental Army from the fields they farmed.

How were royal colonies different from corporate colonies? What was the king’s Privy Council? What role did it play in the House of Burgesses? What led to the creation of the Rhode Island Colony? How was the colony governed?

Royal colonies were under the direct authority of the king, while Corporate colonies were funded by joint-stocks and were allowed to have a say on how to run the colony.
The Privy Council is the British Crown's private council. It gave advice to the king.
It started when Roger Williams was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for having different religious views. Rhode Island was a Charter Colony, in other words, they had to self rule.

The correct statements will be that:

The royal colonies were not jointly held, and neither could anyone participate in discussions as to how the colony shall operate. The King's privy council was one of the advisory committee that was set up for giving the correct set of advices to the king. The role of the Privy Council in the House of Burgesses was that it made the decisions on behalf of the king after the powers were delegated. The Rhode Island Colony was formed as a result of Roger Williams getting banned from the Massachusetts Bay. Though the Rhode Island Colony was not a public colony, it could not possess the Privy Council and as a result had to follow the principles of self-governance.

Royal Colonies.

The king had the supreme authority of governing the royal colonies. Unlike other public colonies, nobody was allowed to participate in the discussions related to operation of the colony.

However, the king himself was not efficient enough to take the decisions of the colonies on his own. For this purpose, the king adopted a Privy Council which gave advices.

a essay of Jamestown and Plymouth

Answers

Heres an essay I made last year.

The first settlers of the 1600's came to Jamestown in search of new land. This 17th century city was one of the few settlements that got us where we are today. Another discovering colony was the Plymouth colony, which discovered or founded the Americas. During these colonies adventures to find new land for religious freedom, and adventure there were many problems, failures, successes, and adventures that these colonies had to take to find their new land.
The goal of the Jamestown settlers was a simple but easy one. They were out to find new land, adventure, gold, and spices.
But their trip was going to be a hard one, battling the seas; starvation, disease, and even death were going to be problems on their journey to America. As many as 100 people set out on the ship to find new land. Some of the types of people on this ship were preachers, carpenters, barbers, bricklayers, sailors, and many more. During their adventure over the seas the settlers suffered from extreme starvation and were forced to eat rats on the decks of the ship, leather from shoes, and even wood after the food was completely emptied from the ship. When the settlers first arrived at their new land they weren't happily greeted, there were Indians that wanted to kill them, bugs that swarmed over the land, and marshy areas that could not be used. But this would all soon change when summer came around. Eventually the temperature came warm, bugs died off, and there was peace made between them and the Indians.
The Plymouth colony on the other hand, had an even better reason to find new land; they were out for religious freedom and a new life. But this would not be an easy task, for they too would also suffer from disease, starvation, death and battling the seas in search of new land. But when they arrived at Plymouth they were also unwanted by Indians. At this new land they found, bug infested land, swampy areas, and the Indians.

The Electoral College, not the general public, is the group that officially votes for the president and vice president. The number of electors from each state is determined by the state's representation in Congress.

Explanation:

The group that actually votes for the president and vice president in the United States is the Electoral College. This system was established by the U.S. Constitution. Each state has a number of electors equal to the combined total of its Senate membership (two for each state) and House of Representatives delegation (which may range from one to fifty-three, depending on the state's population). Are women really treated unfairly?

Answers

I'm a girl/young woman, and from my point of view, I'd say it's kinda in between.

In the past, women were not allowed to vote, not allowed to fight in the military, and (If I remember correctly) not even allowed to get credit cards! So in terms of those things and others, I think women definitely have more rights then we did just a few decades ago.

At the same time, though, women are also treated unfairly. People call feminists (not saying all women are feminists tho) horrible things sometimes, which I think can be applied to some extreme feminists, but not all of them as a whole...There are also wage gaps, a big difference between what men and women earn in their jobs. I haven't heard of any application that has equal wages, but most jobs do, which is unfair to women who are probably working just as hard as men.

Some men also look down on women, thinking they're better than women and that women can't do anything as good as a man can. While some men fit into this category (and some women might too!), not all of them are this discriminant.

There are other things I want to say, but 1, it'd probably make this answer too long, and 2, I have no clue if Brainly will allow them :P

While I do feel like women have most definitely progressed throughout the years and have many powerful female figures (Such as Susan B. Anthony or Ida B. Wells), I still think there can be some improvement made. So, to answer your question, I think while women have earned many rights they deserve, there is still room for improvement.

But this is all matter of opinion I suppose. If someone has different views, I can respect that. This is just my own way of thinking.

Answers

The answer is true that they did sell western lands to the public to pay war debts

Answer:

True.

Explanation:

The Confederation Congress had several economic problems. Congress could not pay its soldiers, nor buy equipment and weapons. With the lack of payments, many men left the congress because they saw no use in fighting for patriotism only while their family starved because of the lack of payments. To remedy these problems, Congress borrowed money, which increased its economic problems because it generated a large debt to other nations. For this reason it was necessary to sell Western lands to the public to pay war debts.

how did the relationship between athens and sparta influence the rise and fall of greek power

Answers

does anyone know this????

Final answer:

The intense rivalry and eventual conflict between Athens and Sparta profoundly influenced both the rise and fall of Greek power. The escalating tensions led to the Peloponnesian War, which significantly weakened major Greek city-states, contributing to their eventual subjugation by Macedonian forces.

Explanation:

The relationship between Athens and Sparta was pivotal in shaping the trajectory of Greek civilization, influencing both its zenith and decline. Their rivalry culminated in the Peloponnesian War, which marked a significant downturn in Greek power. Initially, Athens' growing wealth and power post-Persian Wars alarmed Sparta, leading to the First Peloponnesian War, and eventually, the more devastating Great Peloponnesian War. Athens, known for its maritime prowess and democratic institutions, contrasted sharply with Sparta's oligarchical structure and land-based might. This rivalry fractured Greek unity, making way for external conquests and internal weaknesses. The Peloponnesian War led to significant losses on both sides, weakening major Greek city-states and paving the way for Macedonian dominance under Philip II and Alexander the Great.

Key Points:

The rise of Athenian power post-Persian Wars heightened tensions with Sparta, leading to the First and Great Peloponnesian Wars.

The rivalry between Athens and Sparta reflected deeper contrasts in Greek society, centering around maritime versus land power, and democracy versus oligarchy.

The Peloponnesian War's devastation weakened Greek city-states, undermining their autonomy and making them susceptible to Macedonian conquest.

The Yoruba people, with a significant presence in southwestern Nigeria and southern Benin, have a rich religion that features a supreme deity, an array of secondary deities, ancestor worship, and a divination system called Ifá. Their philosophical traditions have been studied and translated by scholars like Sophie Olúwolé, who recognized their complexity and depth.

Explanation:

The Yoruba people are historically one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa, with a significant presence in southwestern Nigeria and southern Benin. The Yoruba civilization is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and long-standing urban civilization that predates colonial times, with sophisticated city-states and governance systems.

The Yoruba religion is a fundamental aspect of their identity, characterized by a pantheon of deities including a supreme being who is believed to be the creator of the universe and a host of secondary deities such as Obatala, the god of the earth. They also practice ancestor worship, seeing deceased family members as protectors and guides. The Yoruba have a celebrated religious practice called Ifá, which involves divination and the worship of Òrúnmìlà, whom some scholars regard as the first Yoruba philosopher and a figure comparable to Socrates.

Nigerian philosopher Sophie Olúwolé, a notable scholar of Yoruba philosophy, translated the Odu Ifá and posited that the Yoruba traditions and philosophy as encapsulated in the Odu Ifá should be given full recognition in the philosophical domain.

The main goal of the Pan-African movement was to encourage and strengthen bonds of solidarity between all indigenous and diaspora ethnic groups of African descent.

The Pan-African movement has its origins in the late 19th century and early 20th century, with a series of Pan-African Congresses that addressed issues of racial discrimination and colonial rule. The movement was instrumental in the fight for independence across the African continent and continued to advocate for the unity and development of African nations post-independence. The movement aimed to unify and uplift the people of Africa and the African diaspora, and to promote their interests and rights globally. This included the struggle against colonialism, the promotion of political and economic self-sufficiency, and the celebration of African culture and identity.

Key figures in the Pan-African movement included W.E.B. Du Bois, Marcus Garvey, Kwame Nkrumah, and Haile Selassie, among others. Their efforts contributed to the decolonization process in Africa and the empowerment of people of African descent worldwide.
