Explanation:

“... but when I compare my lot with that if most of my countrymen, I regard my myself as a particular favourite of Heaven...” He believes that when compared to others, his suffering has been minimal.

Answer 2

Answer:

1) He believes that his suffering has been minimal compared to other Africans.

Explanation:

In "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano" written by himself, he describes how his life had been as a former slave living in Europe. This memoir serves as a from of slave narrative or even a travel narrative of the author's attempts at escaping being a slave and the work he undertook to help his fellow African men after gaining his freedom.

The excerpt in the question is taken from Chapter I of the memoir where he narrates how he was lucky, more lucky than his fellow countrymen who are still stuck being slaves. He also believes that though he had his fair share of misfortune and suffering, they are minimal in comparison to the suffering faced by his other Black countrymen.

Which sentence contains an error in word usage?

A. The entire church winced when the organist started the song on the wrong chord.

B. Jon was surprised when it did not take him long to learn three cords on the guitar.

C. In the interview, the person trying out for the job did not strike the right chord with the CEO.

D. Franciscan monks in medieval times did not wear belts, but a simply ropes or cords tied around their waist

Answers

The correct answer is B. Jon was surprised when it did not take him long to learn three cords on the guitar.

Explanation:

The words "chord" and "cord" might seem similar but these have different meanings and therefore should be used in different contexts. In the case of the word "cord", this refers to a thin rope or string; on the other hand, the word "chord" refers to a set of musical notes.

In this way, the sentence "Jon was surprised when it did not take him long to learn three cords on the guitar" contains an error in word usage because in instruments including guitars you learn the "chords" (set of notes) but instead the word "cord" has been added which does not fit in this context, as the sentence refers to the musical notes rather than to the strings on the guitar.

As on all its sides a kitchen-match darts white
flickering tongues before it bursts into flame:
with the audience around her, quickened, hot,
her dance begins to flicker in the dark room.

5 And all at once it is completely fire.

One upward glance and she ignites her hair
and, whirling faster and faster, fans her dress
into passionate flames, till it becomes a furnace
from which, like startled rattlesnakes, the long
10 naked arms uncoil, aroused and clicking.

And then: as if the fire were too tight
around her body, she takes and flings it out
haughtily, with an imperious gesture,
and watches: it lies raging on the floor,
15 still blazing up, and the flames refuse to die -
Till, moving with total confidence and a sweet
exultant smile, she looks up finally
and stamps it out with powerful small feet.

What is compared in the first stanza?

the dance and a kitchen match when it is first struck
the dancer and a kitchen match when it is first struck
the dancer and the brilliant flame of a kitchen match
the audience and the heat from a lighted kitchen match

What is the meaning of imperious as it is used in Line 13?

commanding

Answers

Answer:

I agree that it is C. as well.

Answer:

The dancer and a kitchen match when it is first struck.

Commanding.

Explanation:

In the first stanza, the author compares the dancer with a kitchen match when it is first struck. The author tells us that when a kitchen match is first struck, it sends white flickering tongues before it bursts into flame. Similarly, the dancer begins her steps, and she resembles a match that is trying to create a flame.

The word "imperious" refers to something that is domineering or overbearing. In this case, it can also mean commanding. The author tells us that the dancer has a commanding attitude as she sends the "fire" away from her.

Explanation:

thats the best explanation I can come up with

Answer:

Talent does not equal to a stronger/better worker.

In this case, it is generally a "stronger" worker, which would give the appearance of having the capacity of strength. However, note that the sentence does not imply what kind of talent the person has, and the talent the person can have does not generally have to do with strength. This means that, true, Talent does not make you a stronger worker. For example, say you have a talent in working out complicated math skills in your head. While it may save you time, it does not necessary mean you are a "stronger worker", for you may not be fit to do the job you are applying for, say construction work in which you need to have strong muscles and be fit.

1 I do not wish to speak of those political associations with the aid of which men seek to defend themselves against the despotic action of a majority or against the encroachments of royal power. I have already treated this subject elsewhere. It is clear that if each citizen, as he becomes individually weaker and consequently more incapable in isolation of preserving his freedom, does not learn the art of uniting with those like him to defend it, tyranny will necessarily grow with equality.2 Here it is a question only of the associations that are formed in civil life and which have an object that is in no way political.3 The political associations that exist in the United States form only a detail in the midst of the immense picture that the sum of associations presents there.4 Americans of all ages, all conditions, all minds constantly unite. Not only do they have commercial and industrial associations in which all take part, but they also have a thousand other kinds: religious, moral, grave, futile, very general and very particular, immense and very small; Americans use associations to give fêtes, to found seminaries, to build inns, to raise churches, to distribute books, to send missionaries to the antipodes; in this manner they create hospitals, prisons, schools. Finally, if it is a question of bringing to light a truth or developing a sentiment with the support of a great example, they associate. Everywhere that, at the head of a new undertaking, you see the government in France and a great lord in England, count on it that you will perceive an association in the United States.5 In America I encountered sorts of associations of which, I confess, I had no idea, and I often admired the infinite art with which the inhabitants of the United States managed to fix a common goal to the efforts of many men and to get them to advance to it freely.6 I have since traveled through England, from which the Americans took some of their laws and many of their usages, and it appeared to me that there they were very far from making as constant and as skilled a use of association.7 It often happens that the English execute very great things in isolation, whereas there is scarcely an undertaking so small that Americans do not unite for it. It is evident that the former consider association as a powerful means of action; but the latter seem to see in it the sole means they have of acting.8 Thus the most democratic country on earth is found to be, above all, the one where men in our day have most perfected the art of pursuing the object of their common desires in common and have applied this new science to the most objects. Does this result from an accident or could it be that there in fact exists a necessary relation between associations and equality?9 Aristocratic societies always include within them, in the midst of a multitude of individuals who can do nothing by themselves, a few very powerful and very wealthy citizens; each of these can execute great undertakings by himself.10 In aristocratic societies men have no need to unite to act because they are kept very much together.11 Each wealthy and powerful citizen in them forms as it were the head of a permanent and obligatory association that is composed of all those he holds in dependence to him, whom he makes cooperate in the execution of his designs.12 In democratic peoples, on the contrary, all citizens are independent and weak; they can do almost nothing by themselves, and none of them can oblige those like themselves to lend them their cooperation. They therefore all fall into impotence if they do not learn to aid each other freely.13 If men who live in democratic countries had neither the right nor the taste to unite in political goals, their independence would run great risks, but they could preserve their wealth and their enlightenment for a long time; whereas if they did not acquire the practice of associating with each other in ordinary life, civilization itself would be in peril. A people among whom particular persons lost the power of doing great things in isolation, without acquiring the ability to produce them in common, would soon return to barbarism.14 Unhappily, the same social state that renders associations so necessary to democratic peoples renders them more difficult for them than for all the others. 15 When several members of an aristocracy want to associate with each other they easily succeed in doing so. As each of them brings great force to society, the number of members can be very few, and, when the members are few in number, it is very easy for them to know each other, to understand each other, and to establish fixed rules.16 The same facility is not found in democratic nations, where it is always necessary that those associating be very numerous in order that the association have some power.

( Owning an exotic pets and wild animals can sometimes cause endangerment to people and there community. The exotic and wild animals as pet's they are very hard to maintain. And putting them in a cage is not all that great for them. They need to be able to have plenty of room to run around and play. That's there nature. If the animals need medical attention the veterinarian might be able to help the animals or they might not be able to help. Taking care of big exotic and wild animals is way to expensive and can cause harm to there selves. When most of them are circling around and pacing they are probably in attack mode. There should definitely be alot of rules and regulations for every state and country. I think the law should make them have a suitable place to live and a big huge cage where they can run around and play and get lots of exercise. The exotic and wild animals need to stay active so they dont get bored. This is part of there nature. The rules should be made where they have someone from the state and someone from animal control come out once a week to check and make sure that the exotic and wild animals are living in a good environment and are being well maintained and to check and see if there healthy. I personally think exotic and wild pets should live in wild. These animals need to be able to hunt there on food and run around freely. These animals are alot smarter than humans. I'm pretty sure they can find a way to get out of there cage. It has happened all over the world. And when they do escape their owners are putting there community in alot of danger. Also if this happens their owner's should get a big huge fine and jail time. Instead of putting the exotic and wild animals in a zoo they should put them back in the wild where they belong. Hopefully they'll be able to adapt back into the wild life and hunt for there prey and habitat.) Who is Sancho?Bolsa's partnerthe clerk at the hotelWilliam Morningstar's brother Part of the aura surrounding Babe Ruth arose from his modest origins. Though the legend that he was an orphan is untrue, Ruth did have a difficult childhood. Both his parents, George Herman Ruth, Sr., and Kate Shamberger Ruth, came from working-class, ethnic (German) families. Ruth, Sr., owned and operated a saloon in a tough neighbourhood on the Baltimore waterfront. Living in rooms above the saloon, the Ruths had eight children, but only George, Jr., the firstborn, and a younger sister survived to adulthood. Since neither his busy father nor his sickly mother had much time for the youngster, George roamed the streets, engaged in petty thievery, chewed tobacco, sometimes got drunk, repeatedly skipped school, and had several run-ins with the law. In 1902 his parents sent him to the St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, a Baltimore asylum for incorrigibles and orphans run by the Xaverian Brothers order of the Roman Catholic Church. For the next 10 years Ruth was in and out of St. Mary's.
