Describe t-test and explain how to interpret its results?

Answers

Answer 1
The t test compares two averages (means) and tells you if they are different from each other. The t test also tells you how significant the differences are; In other words it lets you know if those differences could have happened by chance. For example, if listening to brain wave beats, makes one smarter or not, 2 groups are created, where one group listens to the real brain wave frequencies andvthe other group listens to a made up sound, then try to record the outcome (if it was by chance, a placebo effect, or actually true). The outcome is recorded in the form of a t-score. This t score is the ratio of the difference between two groups and the difference within the groups. The larger the t score, the more difference there is between groups. The smaller the t score, the more similarity there is between groups. How can you really tell that the difference between the two groups is significant?, by calculating the P value. Every t-score has a p-value to go with it. A p-value is the probability that the results from your sample data occurred by chance. P-values are from 0% to 100%. They are usually written as a decimal. For example, a p value of 5% is 0.05. Low p-values are good; They indicate your data did not occur by chance. For example, a p-value of .01 means there is only a 1% probability that the results from an experiment happened by chance. In most cases, a p-value of 0.05 (5%) is accepted to mean the data is valid. There are three main types of t-test: 1.)An Independent Samples t-test compares the averages (means) for two groups. 2.)A Paired sample t-test compares averages (means) from the same group at different times (say, one year apart). 3.)A One sample t-test tests the average of a single group against a known average. For example, using a paired sample t test (in which everything is recorded in figures), we have two scenarios or conditions which we label A and B, individuals are tested in these two scenarios separately and the result is recorded for both.Let's say the experiment is carried out 10 times on 10 different days (not consecutively). Record everything in a table, the responses gotten in scenario A at the 10 different occasions (labelled 1 to 10) and the same for scenario B. Next step is to subtract the results gotten in B from the ones gotten in A in each of the occassions. After that, sum of the differences gotten from each occasion. Next, square the differences you obtained from each occassion and sum up the squared differences. ( do not square the sum gotten from the differences, but instead square each difference in each occassion, then get their sum).After which we calculate the t-score using the formula for paired sample t-test. After you have calculated the t-score. You have to compare it to the t-table value which you can find in books or even online. To be able to compare your results to the one already written down in the table, first calculate the degree of freedom by subtracting 1 from the number of occasions you did the experiment (in this case;10-1)= 9. Then check the value you are closest to on the t-table reading the values on the same line as the degree of freedom 9, that way you can obtain your p-value (which is also written down in the t-table), if p is =/<0.05= then your result is significant.

Over the course of a year,a tractor-trailer commutes 160,000 miles across America.Assuming a trucker changes his tires every 40,000 miles,and that he starts with a brand new set of tires,how many sets of tires will he use in a year?

Answers

160,000 - 40,000= 120,000/4 = 3 sets of new tires in the first year and 4 every consecutive year.
Final answer:

Given that a trucker changes his tires every 40,000 miles, if he drives 160,000 miles in a year, he will use a total of 5 sets of tires.

Explanation:

The question is asking us to find out how many sets of tires a trucker will use when he drives 160,000 miles in a year, given that he changes his tires every 40,000 miles. To find out, we need to do some simple division.

First, we need to take the total distance traveled, which is 160,000 miles, and divide it by the distance the trucker can travel on a set of tires, which is 40,000 miles. 160,000 miles divided by 40,000 miles equals 4.

So, if the trucker starts the year with a fresh set of tires, he will need to change his tires 4 times throughout the year, meaning he will use a total of 5 sets of tires.

A cashier has 30 bills, all of which are $10 or $20 bills. The total value of the money is $460. How many of each type of bill does the cashier have?

Answers

the cashier has 16 $10 bills and 14 $20 bills
16×20=320
14×10=140
320+140=460

Answer:

There are 14 $10 bills and 16 $20 bills.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let

x = number of $10 bills

y = number of $20 bills

The sum of the value of x and y is $460.

10 x + 20 y = 460   [1]

The sum of x and y is equal to the total number of bills.

x + y = 30

y = 30 - x   [2]

We replace [2] in [1],

10 x + 20 (30 - x) = 460

10 x + 600 - 20 x = 460

-10 x = -140

x = 14

We can get y if we replace this value of x in [2].

y = 30 - 14 = 16

An apartment building has the following distribution of apartments: 1st floor 1 bed room 3, two bedroom 1, 3 bedroom 1, 2nd floor 1 bedroom 2, 2 bedroom 2, 3 bedroom 2, 3rd floor 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom 4, 3 bedroom 1. If an apartment is selected at random, what is the probability that it is on the 2nd floor or has 2 bedrooms

Answers

Final answer:

The probability that an apartment is on the 2nd floor or has 2 bedrooms is 0.7727 or 77.27%.

Explanation:

To find the probability that an apartment is on the 2nd floor or has 2 bedrooms, we need to determine the total number of apartments that satisfy either of the conditions.

On the 2nd floor, there are 2 apartments with 1 bedroom, 2 apartments with 2 bedrooms, and 2 apartments with 3 bedrooms. This gives us a total of 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 apartments on the 2nd floor.

Out of the total distribution of apartments, there are 3 apartments with 1 bedroom, 4 apartments with 2 bedrooms, and 4 apartments with 3 bedrooms. This gives us a total of 3 + 4 + 4 = 11 apartments with 2 bedrooms.

The probability of an apartment being on the 2nd floor or having 2 bedrooms is given by:

Probability = (Number of apartments on the 2nd floor + Number of apartments with 2 bedrooms) / Total number of apartments

Probability = (6 + 11) / (6 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 4 + 1) = 17 / 22 = 0.7727 or 77.27%

Find the expressions that are equal..use the equal expressions to write true number sentences ??

Answers

Final answer:

To find equal expressions, identify different expressions that have the same value when evaluated. Write true number sentences using these equal expressions.

Explanation:

In order to find equal expressions, we need to identify different expressions that have the same value when evaluated. For example, the expressions 3 + 4 and 7 are equal because both evaluate to 7. We can use these equal expressions to write true number sentences, such as 3 + 4 = 7.

Another example is the expressions 2 * 5 and 10, which are equal because both evaluate to 10. We can write the true number sentence 2 * 5 = 10 using these equal expressions.

It's important to note that we're looking for expressions that are equal in value, not necessarily in form. For example, the expressions x + 2 and 3 + x are equal because they represent the same value for any given value of x. We can write the true number sentence x + 2 = 3 + x using these equal expressions.

(round your answer to four decimal places.)

Answers

Part A:

The z score of the hypothesis testing of n samples of a normally distributed data set is given by:

[tex]z= \frac{x-\mu}{\sigma/\sqrt{n}} [/tex]

Given that the population mean is 75 and the population standard deviation is 7, then the number of standard deviation of the mean for x = 72.3 is given by the z score:

[tex]z= \frac{72.3-75}{7/\sqrt{25}} \\ \\ = \frac{-2.7}{7/5} = \frac{-2.7}{1.4} \\ \\ =-1.93[/tex]

Therefore, 72.3 is 1.93 standard deviations below the mean.

Part B:

The test statistics of the hypothesis testing of n samples of a normally distributed data set is given by:

[tex]z= \frac{x-\mu}{\sigma/\sqrt{n}} [/tex]

Thus given that x = 72.3, μ = 75, σ = 7 and n = 25,

[tex]z= \frac{72.3-75}{7/\sqrt{25}} \\ \\ = \frac{-2.7}{7/5} = \frac{-2.7}{1.4} \\ \\ =-1.93[/tex]

The p-value is given by:

[tex]P(-1.93)=0.03[/tex]

Since α = 0.01 and p-value = 0.03, this means that the p-value is greater than the α, ant thus, we will faill to reject the null hypothesis.

Therefore, the conclussion is do not reject the null hypothesis. there is not sufficient evidence to conclude that the mean drying time is less than 75.

Part C

In order to reject the null hypothesis, the p-value must be less than or equal to α.

The p-value for z ≤ -2.8 is 0.00256.

Therefore, the α for the test procedure that rejects the null hypothesis when z ≤ −2.8 is 0.0026

Part D:

In general for the alternative hypothesis , [tex]H_a :\mu\ \textless \ \mu_0[/tex]

[tex]\beta(\mu') = P\left(X \ \textgreater \ \mu_0-z_{1-\alpha}\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}|\mu'\right) \\ \\ = 1-P\left(-z_{1-\alpha}+\frac{\mu_0-\mu'}{\sigma/\sqrt{n}}\right) [/tex]

So for the test procedure with α = 0.0026

[tex]\beta(70) = 1 - P\left(-z_{0.9974}+\frac{75-70}{7/5}\right) \\ \\ =1 - P(-2.7949+3.5714)=1-P(0.7765) \\ \\ =1-0.78128\approx\bold{0.2187 }[/tex]

Part E:

For α = 0.0026, and a general sample size n we have that

[tex]\beta(70) = 1 - P\left(-z_{0.9974}+\frac{75-70}{7/\sqrt{n}}\right) \\ \\ =1 - P\left(-2.7949+ \frac{5}{7/\sqrt{n}} \right)[/tex]

Since, we want n so that β(70) = 0.01, thus

[tex]1 - P\left(-2.7949+ \frac{5}{7/\sqrt{n}} \right)=0.01 \\ \\ \Rightarrow P\left(-2.7949+ \frac{5}{7/\sqrt{n}} \right)=1-0.01=0.99 \\ \\ \Rightarrow P\left(-2.7949+ \frac{5}{7/\sqrt{n}} \right)=P(2.3262) \\ \\ \Rightarrow -2.7949+ \frac{5}{7/\sqrt{n}}=2.3262 \\ \\ \Rightarrow \frac{5}{7/\sqrt{n}}=5.1211 \\ \\ \Rightarrow \frac{7}{\sqrt{n}} = \frac{5}{5.1211} =0.9764 \\ \\ \Rightarrow \sqrt{n}= \frac{7}{0.9764} =7.1695 \\ \\ \Rightarrow n=(7.1695)^2=51.4[/tex]

so we need n = 52.

Part F:

p-value = [tex]P-value=P(\bar{X}\leq\bar{x}) \\ \\ =P(\bar{X}\leq72.3)=P\left(z\leq \frac{72.3-76}{7/5} \right) \\ \\ =P\left(z\leq \frac{-3.7}{1.4} \right)=P(z\leq-2.643) \\ \\ =\bold{0.00411}[/tex]

Since p-value is larger that .01 we fail to reject µ = 76.

A paint drying situation, has the standard deviation 1.93. The detailed solution is given below.

Given :

Standard Deviation, [tex]\sigma = 7[/tex]

Mean, [tex]\mu = 75[/tex]

Sample, n = 25

Solution :

A) We know that,

[tex]z = \dfrac{x-\mu}{\dfrac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n} }}[/tex]     ---- (1)

Now put the values of [tex]\rm x,\;\mu,\;\sigma \;and \;n[/tex] in equation (1) we get,

[tex]z = \dfrac{72.3-75}{\dfrac{7}{\sqrt{25} }}[/tex]

z = -1.93

Therefore, 72.3 is 1.93 standard deviations below the mean.

B) From the above part we know that z = - 1.93.Therefore p-value is,

P(-1.93) = 0.03

Since [tex]\alpha[/tex] = 0.01 and p-value = 0.03, this means that the p-value is greater than the fail to reject the null hypothesis.

C) The p-value for [tex]z\leq -2.8[/tex]

is 0.00256

Therefore, the [tex]\alpha[/tex] for the test procedure that rejects the null hypothesis when [tex]z\leq -2.8[/tex] is 0.0026.

D) For alternate hypothesis,

[tex]\rm \beta (\mu') = P(X>\mu_0-z_1_-_\alpha \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n} }|\mu')[/tex]

[tex]\rm = P(-z_1_-_\alpha +\dfrac{\mu_0-\mu'}{\dfrac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n} }})[/tex]

For [tex]\alpha[/tex] = 0.0026

[tex]\rm \beta (70)=1- P(-z_0_._9_9_7_4 +\dfrac{75-70}{\dfrac{7}{\sqrt{25} }})[/tex]

[tex]\rm \beta (70) = 1-P(-2.7949+3.5714)=1-P(0.7765)[/tex]

[tex]\beta (70)=1-0.78128\approx 0.2187[/tex]

E) Now we want n when

[tex]\beta (70) = 0.01[/tex]

[tex]\rm 0.01=1- P(-z_0_._9_9_7_4 +\dfrac{75-70}{\dfrac{7}{\sqrt{n} }})[/tex]

[tex]P(-2.7949+\dfrac{5}{\dfrac{7}{\sqrt{n} }})=0.99[/tex]

[tex]P(-2.7949+\dfrac{5}{\dfrac{7}{\sqrt{n} }})=P(2.3262)[/tex]

[tex]-2.7949+\dfrac{5}{\dfrac{7}{\sqrt{n} }}=2.3262[/tex]

[tex]\rm \sqrt{n} = 7.1695[/tex]

n = 51.4

Therefore we need n = 52.

F)

[tex]\rm p-value = P(\bar{X}\leq \bar{x})[/tex]

[tex]\rm p-value = P(\bar{X}\leq 72.3)=P(z\leq \dfrac{72.3-76}{\dfrac{7}{5}})[/tex]

[tex]\rm p-value = P(z\leq -2.643)[/tex]

[tex]\rm p-value = 0.00411[/tex]

Since p-value is larger that .01 therefore we fail to reject [tex]\mu[/tex] = 76.

A useful rule of thumb called the "rule of 70" states that if something grows at a constant rate of z percent per year, it doubles in size approximately every __________ years.
a. z/70
b. 70/z
c. 70 - z
d. 70 × (z/100)

The answer is b. (70/z). If I put $100 into a savings account and the annual growth rate is 10%, the 70/10%= 7 years that the initial $100 would take to double.

I don't know how to solve this

Answers

The goal is to get x by itself. So you have 3/4x=1464. First you would multiply by 4 on both sides to get rid of the fraction. 1464x4 is 5,856
So what you're left with is 3x=5,856, so you divide on both sides by 3 to get x by itself and end up with the answer x=1952.
Another way to do this is if you understand how fractions work, 3/4 is equivalent to .75 so think of it as .75x=1464 and divide by .75 on both sides to get 1952. Either way works and either way x=1,952

Answer:

y = 3 1/13

Step-by-step explanation:

Add 3 and combine like terms:

... (2 3/5)y = 8

Multiply by the reciprocal of the coefficient of y.

... y = 8 · (5/13) = 40/13

... y = 3 1/13

_____

Check

(3/5)(3 1/13) - 3 + 2(3 1/13) = 5

(3/5)(40/13) - 39/13 + 2(40/13) = 5 . . . . express everything with 13 as a denominator

24/13 - 39/13 + 80/13 = 5 . . . . . eliminate parentheses

Final answer:

To find the value of b in the equation 25s = 9b = 4c - s^2, we can substitute the given values and solve using the quadratic equation.

Explanation:

To find the value of b, we can use the given information and substitute the values of a, b, and c into the quadratic equation.

The equation is: c = 25s = 9b = 4c - s^2

Substituting the values:

25s = 9b = 4c - s^2

25s = 9b = 4c - s^2

Now we can solve for b:

9b = 4c - s^2

9b = 4(-0.0211) - (9)^2

9b = -0.0844 - 81

9b = -81.0844

b = -81.0844/9

b = -9.01
