Answers

David L. Payne promoted land settlement on the Unassigned Lands in the Kansas City Times, leading settler groups and raising awareness for future settlement opportunities.

The individual who promoted land settlement on the Unassigned Lands in the Kansas City Times newspaper was David L. Payne. Payne was an advocate for the settlement of what would become Oklahoma. He led several groups of settlers, known as "Boomers," into the Unassigned Lands, clashing with the U.S. government which had not legally opened the area for settlement. The Unassigned Lands were eventually opened to settlement during the Land Run of 1889, after Payne's death, partially due to the awareness he helped raise about the potential for settlement in the region.

If the government decided to subsidize the production of bobble-head dolls A) the supply curve will shift to the left. B) the supply curve will shift to the right. C) the demand for bobble-heads will decrease. D) the demand for bobble-heads will equal the supply.

Answers

The correct answer is - B) the supply curve will shift to the right.

If the government decides to subsidize the production of bobble-head dolls, than the production of these dolls will increase. The reason for the increased production will be that part of the expenses for the production are paid by the government, not the company that produces them, thus the company will try to benefit of this measure by producing more. The increase in the production means that the supply on the market will also experience an increase, thus making the supply curve go towards the right side.

The correct answer is the option, B. If the government decided to subsidize the production of bobble-head dolls, the supply curve will shift to the right.

EXPLANATION:

The explanation for the increased production will be that the government will pay part of the production costs, not the company that produces them, so by producing more, the company will try to benefit from this initiative. The increase in production means that there will also be an increase in supply on the market, resulting in the supply curve going to the right side.

The rule of demand states is that the higher the price of a good, the fewer people will demand the good, in condition if all other factors remain the same. In other words, the higher the value, the lower the demand for the quantity. The value of a good bought by consumers at a higher price is less because as a good's price rises, so is the opportunity cost of purchasing the product. As a consequence, people will naturally avoid buying a product that will cause them to forget about eating something else that they value more.

The supply law reveals the amounts to be sold at a given price. Yet contrary to the law of demand, there is an upward trend in the supply relationship. That means the higher the price, the higher the supplied quantity. The producers will supply more at a higher price because selling an advanced quantity at an advanced price will likely increase the revenue.

Describe the dravidian’s economy

Answers

they are speakers of the Darvidian languages, there are around 245 million native speakers of Dravidian languages. They form the majority of the population of South India.
Final answer:

The ancient Dravidian economy, particularly under the Chola dynasty, was advanced and trade-centric, with significant maritime activity through the Palk Strait's control. Agricultural productivity and a redistributive economic system supplemented internal stability and external trade. Today, India continues to evolve with significant growth in technology and industry sectors.

Explanation:

The economy of the ancient Dravidians, particularly during the period of the Chola dynasty, was remarkably sophisticated with far-reaching trade networks. Important to this was the control of the Palk Strait, which was a strategic point in maritime trade. Goods traded included ivory, pepper, spices, Roman coins, and peacocks, while imports were mostly gold and silver, which were exchanged for local products such as textiles, spices, and gems.

The Cholas were known to have controlled a vast expanse along the eastern coast of the subcontinent. Their kingdom was one of centralized governance, with a professional, disciplined bureaucracy that oversaw the empire's economic activities. A significant part of the population were Tamil speakers who were heavily involved in fishing, trading, and seafaring, helping to maintain and expand the region's influence through trade with other lands.

Agriculture also played a crucial role, with goods being collected as taxes and redistributed across the society. Additionally, India has a long history of strong agricultural production, dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Despite the invasion of the Huns causing the decline of the Gupta Empire, southern India continued to flourish economically, in part due to established trade networks and agricultural strength.

Impact on Contemporary Economy

In modern times, India's economy is rapidly transforming with the growth of technology and industry. Manufacturing, industry, and information technology are becoming increasingly important, showing the long-term resilience and adaptability of India's economy.

The introduction of Islam developed during the 600's and 700's through the gold-salt trade routes. The West African Empires (Ghana, Mali, Songhai) traded gold with the Arab and Berber merchants who brought salt from the Sahara region and manufactured goods from the northern Mediterranean ports. Those merchants and missionaries who came to Ghana, brought with them their religion, Islam. As a result, rulers in Ghana adopted Islam. Besides, Ghana kings decided to hire Muslim advisors to help them rule because they believed that Muslims were very intelligent  people.

The religion that was introduced to Ghana through the gold-salt trade is Islam.

The comercial transactions between the northern region of Africa and  the western region, such as the gold-salt trade, led to Islamism being disseminated through the African continent. In Ghana particularly, the acceptance of the Islamic religion began with the conversion of traders in the 11th century.

Answer: The mandate system authorized a member nation of the League of Nations to govern a former German or Turkish colonial area after the conclusion of World War I.

Context/detail:

When World War I erupted, the Ottoman Empire sided with Germany as part of the "Central Powers."  In the end, the Central Powers lost and the Turkish  empire of the Ottomans ceased to exist as an empire.  Turkey remained as a country, but it lost control over other territories that it had held before.  Germany was stripped of its overseas colonial holdings.

The League of Nations created a system for governing former German and Ottoman territories, called "the mandate system."  There were mandate territories for former German territories in Africa and Asia, as well for former Ottoman territories in the Middle East.

The former Turkish provinces of Syria, Iraq and Palestine in the Middle East were divided into a French mandate territory and British mandate territory. The British mandate rule over Palestine has much to do with the history of the development of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

With the end of World War II, Europe was destroyed and weakened politically and economically, with which emerged two world powers, the United States and the Soviet Union, which represented capitalism and socialism respectively.

When leaving the War, the Soviet Union aspired to extend the action of the socialism, starting in the east European. Noticing the expansion of socialism led by the Soviets, Britain's Winston Churchill began to motivate all capitalists to devise strategies to contain such an advance.

The US government declared support for this initiative, President Harry S. Congress is most likely to propose a joint resolution to amend the Constitution, such as guaranteeing equal rights for women. A committee chairman can stall a bill by refusing to report it. For reconciliation of different bill versions, a conference committee creates a compromise bill, while ping-pong is a quicker alternative to resolve differences between the chambers.

In which situation is Congress most likely to propose a joint resolution instead of a public bill? The correct answer is C. amending the Constitution to guarantee equal rights for women. Joint resolutions are commonly used for Constitutional amendments and other important issues that require the approval of both houses of Congress and the President's signature, similar to a bill, but are also used to propose Constitutional amendments, which must then be ratified by the states.

If the chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means opposes a bill to increase the federal tax on gasoline, the action this representative can take to stall the bill is B. refuse to report the bill. By refusing to report the bill, the chairman can effectively stall the progress of the legislation in committee.

The best calendar for a bill to place a new statue of President Abraham Lincoln in front of the U.S. National Archives would be A. the union calendar. This calendar is for bills concerning appropriations and budgeting, which would likely be relevant for funding the construction of a new statue.

To consider a bill to fund construction of a new dam, which the President has threatened to veto, the House should call B. a full session; an up or down vote. A record vote would ensure that all members' votes are recorded, which is beneficial when a veto threat exists.

The reason a senator who opposes a President's nominee for the Supreme Court would start a filibuster is to delay a decision. The best explanation for this action is B. A vote for cloture will be required before a vote on confirmation, delaying a decision. A filibuster can force the Senate to take a cloture vote, requiring a supermajority to proceed, thus potentially stalling the confirmation process.

When the House and the Senate each pass different versions of a bill, a conference committee is likely to A. create a compromise bill and resubmit it to the House and the Senate. The purpose of the conference committee is to reconcile the differences between the two versions of the bill.

The Supreme Court ruled against the Line Item Veto Act of 1996 because D. The Court decided it was unconstitutional for the President to veto individual parts of a bill. The Act had granted the President the power to veto individual provisions of a bill without vetoing the entire bill, which the Court found unconstitutional.

One reason the House and Senate may 'ping-pong' a bill instead of sending it to a conference committee is because B. Ping-pong is a faster way to resolve differences than a conference committee. This method involves the two chambers sending the bill back and forth to each other with amendments, bypassing the need for a conference committee.

American colonists resisted British policies through boycotts of British goods and iconic acts of defiance like the Boston Tea Party, underlying their protest against taxation without representation.

Explanation:

One way American colonists resisted British policies before the American Revolution was through boycotts of British goods. Groups like the Sons of Liberty spearheaded these boycotts, specifically in response to taxes imposed on the colonies, such as the Stamp Act of 1765, which levied a tax on newspapers, pamphlets, and legal documents. This act of resistance emerged from the colonists' broader disapproval of taxes imposed without their consent, encapsulating their rallying cry of "No taxation without representation!" Additionally, the Boston Tea Party in 1773 served as a dramatic and iconic act of resistance, where colonists, protesting the Tea Act, boarded a British ship and dumped its cargo of tea into Boston Harbor. This act of defiance not only exemplified their resistance to British taxation but also signaled the escalating tensions that would eventually lead to the American Revolution.

What can you infer about what Lewis and Clark saw as they moved west from the Mississippi River?

Answers

Final answer:

Lewis and Clark's journey was part of the exploration of the Louisiana Purchase, noting landscape and resources, interacting with Native American tribes, and solidifying U.S. territorial claims. They ultimately disproved the existence of an all-water route to the Pacific, the Northwest Passage.

Explanation:

Lewis and Clark, in their journey westward from the Mississippi River, saw a variety of landscapes and interacted with numerous Native American tribes. This exploration was part of the Louisiana Purchase territory, which enabled the exploration and exploitation of these western lands. They were tasked with making extensive maps and notes about the geography, plant life, animals, and natural resources they encountered. During this journey, they established relationships with many Native American tribes, collected hundreds of plant and animal specimens and boosted the United States' claims to the vast territory in the west.

Despite the hardships they faced, including nearly starving in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana, the Corps of Discovery managed to reach the Pacific Ocean in 1805. Their exploration didn't find an all-water route to the Pacific Ocean, proving that such an all-water passage, known as the Northwest Passage, did not exist.

Upon their return to St. Louis in 1806, they had achieved many of the goals set by Thomas Jefferson. Their work allowed for further economic exploitation of the land and solidified U.S. claims over it. They began the process of American expansion and power influence, setting a precedent for future expeditions and westward settlement.

Lewis and Clark's expedition revealed a rich and diverse landscape west of the Mississippi River. Still, their expedition marked a significant achievement in American history.

Explanation:

As they moved west from the Mississippi River, Lewis and Clark embarked on a remarkable exploration that spanned across the North American continent. The area was largely unexplored, and their journey revealed a diverse landscape filled with various types of fauna and flora, many of which were unknown to the Americans at that time.

With a keen interest in nature and science, they took extensive notes on the geography, plant life, animals, and natural resources they encountered. Besides, they built relationships with many native American tribes, playing a crucial role in paving the way for future American trade among these tribes. Moreover, their expedition legitimized America's claims to the vast territory against rivals such as Great Britain and Spain.

However, they encountered several challenges, including the failure to establish an all-water route to the Pacific Ocean, a long-held goal that eventually proved non-existent. Despite these challenges, Lewis and Clark's expedition is considered a significant achievement that contributed to the extensive knowledge of the western territory beyond the Mississippi River.
